ASF
Lawyers for Lawyers

The organisation provides legal services in symbolic cases. It sends its lawyers without borders to assist and/or represent human rights lawyers and human rights activists who are persecuted for exercising their profession.

ASF intervenes in cases where freedom of expression, association and information are violated. This type of intervention often requires solid legal expertise. ASF is daily asked to intervene. Unfortunately, the organisation cannot reply to all requests. ASF examines each request according to its principles and criteria for intervention.

The strenght of words

Many countries claim to be more democratic than they in fact are. There are today too many legal systems that are not impartial. Thos working in such systems do not know what it is to carry out their professional activities in a climate that respects their independence. They work under pressure, there are silenced, the risks they run range from sanctions to unlawful imprisonment.

ASF’s interventions vary from country to country: we provide expertise to support a foreign lawyer, carry out an in-depth enquiries, provide support for those who feel threatened in the exercise of their profession, attend trials as observers, etc.
